What have you thrown away recently?
What have you thrown away recently? / ¿Qué has tirado recientemente? (2019) is an interactive piece featuring homemade crayons. Beeswax from a Massachusetts apiary was melted and pigmented with discarded eyeshadow palettes, lipsticks and brow balms, then poured into thrifted ice cube trays to create narrow cylindrical forms. A sign invited gallery visitors to participate in answering the titular question of the work by using the crayons to make marks on a paper-covered table.
Holding these objects formed of and by repurposed and local materials, a second question prompted consideration of what we forget or lose track of that we wish we still had— ultimately asking the participant to consider the full lifecycle of the refuse generated by our own consumeristic lifestyles.
